THE BETA MALE

The Alpha male and his traits have been parroted over and over again so much in mainstream media. But in reality, the Alpha male is just a myth. A myth that has become completely irrelevant in today’s context. The strong and silent men trope was thrown out the window long ago when women shed their damsel in distress in role. Today the macho, dominant man is not a hero trope, its more of a villain trope.

It also makes sense since gender roles are a lot more fluid today than they were 10 years ago. A man who is more connected to his emotions, not afraid to express his feelings, empathize better and not insecure to step out of their traditional male shell.

And this breaking of gender roles is not just holding handbags or cooking anniversary dinners. It is becoming a sensitive and supportive individual not only to women but to everyone. The beta male is often considered as a submissive and less assertive person but he is also the one who listens to others without butting in with his opinions, provides a safe space for people to confide in him without judgement and helps the people around him to share, heal and grow. If kindness is the new hotness, beta males are definitely the alpha males of today.

It may seem like an ironic post to share on Men’s day but this is not just for men. Most men remain out of touch with their feelings because this patriarchal society won’t let them feel, cry or even deal with failure. And that society consists of women too who won’t let men feel. Next time a man cries or emotes in front of you, empathize with them so that they can empathize better!
